INSTRUCTIONAL GUIDELINE #3 — Focus on Core Instruction

The expectation during this time period is that students continue their learning. The day will look very different for teachers; however, student learning should continue to be the focus of your work.  It may be tempting to simply copy worksheets and packets for students to complete during this dismissal.

Student well-being and academic development will suffer if at-home work is not at least as engaging as the classroom experience. It is imperative that teachers Intentionally select activities and resources that address learning objectives and standards.

How can you do this?

  • Use content pacing guides and curriculum maps to identify appropriate learning standards and objectives that are to be covered in the next two weeks.
  • Break your teaching into chunks.
  • Focus your attention and the attention of your students on mastery of content and not a designated time on a task.
