Supplemental Math Course(SMC)
Supplemental Math Course (SMC) is a secondary supplemental intervention mathematics course designed to support students who need additional instruction beyond their Core mathematics course during the school day (for elective, not mathematics credit). This course allows students to receive credit for previously failed mathematics courses by showing proficiency (passing grade) in their current mathematics course. This course should be taught by a certified math teacher because it is intended to increase student understanding and achievement by increasing time and intensity on grade level core standards. Strategies used in the intervention course should differ from those used in the core math course. It includes all student populations, including general education students, special education students, and English language learners. When done appropriately, this course will build both student confidence and reduce the likelihood of students repeating their core mathematics course. For more details click here.
